BALTIMORE -- Construction on the Jones Falls Expressway was delayed during the project's two years -- by a couple hours.Baltimore's mayor and city transportation officials were scheduled to formally reopen all lanes and ramps of the JFX for the first time in nearly two years Monday. But crews did not reopen the full JFX Monday morning due to an underground fire downtown.Without the scheduled festivities, crews reopened the highway late Monday morning to traffic. The project took four months longer than planned. Delays were blamed on snow and rain.
But the wait will be worth it, according to city engineers who said JFX users can now look forward to several years without major reconstruction projects. The stretch that was repaved had not undergone a major reconstruction since it opened about 40 years ago.Stay with TheWBALChannel.com and 11 News for the latest travel updates.
