BWI Evacuates Towers Due To Strange Odor

The Baltimore-Washington International Airport approach and departure towers were briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon.

Some time around 1 p.m., workers smelled an unusual odor in a closet. Officials later traced the odor to some paint.

Due to the evacuations, however, some planes were diverted to Washington Dulles International Airport. Upon reopening of the towers, employees were allowed to take a break in 15-minute intervals for fresh air.
