BALTIMORE -- A housing fight is going on between Loyola College and students who want to live in a popular off-campus neighborhood. The college is insisting that any student who lives in Gallagher Park will not be allowed to enroll for classes. WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Barry Simms said Loyola has labeled the condos unsafe.Simms reported Gallagher Park condominium owners have used their properties as a door of opportunity. They lease most of the townhomes for between $1,500 and $1,800 a month. Most of the residents in the 45 units are Loyola College students.
The homeowners said Loyola wants to get the property, but at a low price. The college denies it.One of Loyola's biggest complaints is that some of the students are sleeping in basement bedrooms and have no other way out except the steps to the first floor.
