BALTIMORE -- Auto body shops are cashing in following the weekend's snowstorms. Authorities blamed slick streets for hundreds of accidents, and mechanics are keeping busy fixing the damage, WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Jennifer Franciotti reported.
D and J Auto Care has enough business to keep busy for a month.
"The weekend has been crazy," said Denny Rapp, the manager of D and J Auto Care in Baltimore's Hampden neighborhood.
The weekend storm wreaked havoc on drivers, causing whiteout conditions in areas like Howard County. The snow fell hard and fast, making it impossible for plows to keep up.
As a result, Rapp said he and his staff have seen many damaged vehicles.
"Mostly fender benders, minor dents and accidents, hit and runs," Rapp said.
Rapp said his shop is overwhelmed and the garage was already packed with cars damaged by the previous snowstorm last Thursday.
Car rental agents around the area told 11 News they had rented all of their vehicles, and they continue to receive calls from people either involved in a crash, or others whose cars wouldn't start due to the cold weather.
"It wouldn't start, I was stuck on Interstate 695, and so here I am," said Alphia Harris, whose car would not start.
And not a moment too soon, Harris was able to get the last car available at a Towson car rental agency.
Maryland State Police told 11 News troopers worked more than 250 accidents over the weekend.
