UPDATED: 6:18 p.m. EST December 10, 2003

Ford is voluntarily recalling more than 130,000 Escape SUVs because of a possible seatbelt defect.

The recall covers 2001 models.

The company said that driver and front passenger seat belts could fail to latch.

Ford spokesman Glenn Ray told Just-Auto.com that a plastic tab used to lessen noise can wear down and break.

One minor injury has been blamed on the problem.

The company said it will send notices to owners next month. For more information, contact your dealer.
