Md. Teachers' Union Opposes Tests As Graduation Requirement

BALTIMORE -- The Maryland Teachers' Union is joining other education groups in a last-ditch effort to oppose the state's plan to make passing standardized tests a requirement for graduation.The state board of education approved the plan in February and is scheduled to take a vote on its final details next month.Under the proposal, the class of 2009 would have to pass the Maryland High School Assessment Tests in four subjects to receive a high school diploma.
